"What's
in a name?" the playwright
once asked.
And you may well have a name
about which you know nothing presently, but by
which your every thought, motive and the very core
nature of your being are known, to your Creator and
His servants.
Often people speak of living
up to a good name, but in this case whether your
real name is good or otherwise depends entirely on
how you have lived -- and are living, and more
especially will live -- your life. In this
case, your name will live up to the reality of who
and what you are; the sum total of your character
(or lack thereof), whatever the case may be.
More importantly, that true
nature of your hidden name, the essence of your
character, faces three important choices that will
determine your future (or if you even have a
future) in this world, that impacts and reveals the
purpose and meaning of your life and where it will
take you after all is said and done, and your brief
span of existence on earth comes to its final
conclusion.
Those choices are whether or
not that name will be written into a special book,
or record, or if written therein whether it remains
or is removed and erased therefrom.
The nature and purpose of
that book should be of vital concern to you,
because it determines where you will stand when all
the works or deeds and desires of your heart -- the
totality of who you are and all you will ever be --
are judged and weighed in the righteous
balance.
That most important and
imperative of all books, that great and
indispensable, fundamental and most significant of
all records (at least as far as you and I are
concerned) is known as the Book of Life.
And although the positive and
forward-looking aspect of this name defines its
purpose and ultimate intent, it obviously also
reveals the opposite outcome -- should a name be
found unworthy of a permanent entry into that
heavenly record book.
More important than a birth
certificate, more vital than any government-issued
identity or so-called "security" card, more
momentous than any book or record known to man, is
this critical record; and yet you have total
control over the choices relating to your name or
reputation, as it relates to that document.
You see, you have the awesome
ability and power to change your outlook -- indeed,
your very future, just as you can also change your
present circumstances -- by simply changing your
mind.
If you were in a small boat
or on a raft, and you heard or saw the roar of a
mighty waterfall immediately ahead -- as the
current swiftly hurls you relentlessly toward that
possibly fatal plunge over the watery precipice --
what would you do?
Would you complain, or sit
there frozen by fear, or lie down and cover your
head -- hoping for the best but inwardly realizing
the sickening reality of what's about to become of
you -- or would you instead start paddling with all
your strength and energy for the nearest safe
shore?
Some might even secretly
crave the dangerous adventure of going over the
edge, and the brief but perilous fall, but do you
really want to face the rocky and engulfing reality
that awaits the foolish, the risk-inclined, the
arrogant and ignorant, those in denial, or those
too petrified by fear, worry, or concerned with
what others might think, to take lifesaving action
and avert disaster?
You are truly making a name
for yourself. And whether or not that name,
or you, will ever be remembered in the current of
life that flows relentlessly forward, will all
depend on the important decisions you make now, or
will make in future.
So why not make it the very
best name you possibly can?
Living to see a new age, and
all the joys it can hold, is well worth the effort
of making the momentous decision to choose life
now, and the struggle and effort to gain that
reward, in the end.
